About Ben:

Hi, my name is Ben McGlynn and my motto in life is “never give up’’. I haven’t had the easiest path to the AFL, but I’m determined to work as hard as possible to get the best out of myself.

I’m one of the smallest players on the Sydney Swans list. I’m 174cm, and the great thing about AFL is that there is a place for everyone, whether you are 200cm tall like our ruckman Shane Mumford, or a guy like me who feeds off the ruck tap work.

I grew up in NSW, near the Victorian border, in a small place called Dareton. I have three brothers, so I played lots of footy with them, and my junior club was Wentworth in NSW. When I was 15, I went down to Victoria and played for Bendigo under 18s. I boarded with a family in Bendigo and went to school there, mainly so I would have a better chance of being a professional football player.

I was put on the rookie list at Hawthorn in 2006 and stayed at the club for three years until I came to Sydney at the end of 2010.

I really love living in Sydney. The weather is great and I’ve got lots of great team-mates. Preseason is always really tough with the Swan, but no matter how hard it gets, my motto is to  “never give up!’’

I’m 26 years old and I’ve played 82 games so far in my career and my goal for this season is to play every game in the midfield for the Swans.

I hope you come and watch us play, and cheer on the red and the white!
